The Best Thing I Saw All Day

Among the sea of tourists at Disneyland that flock there with their foreign styles, this was the best of anything I had seen all day. The strangely printed dress that looks more like a work of art or what could be put on an African quilt paired with the black flats on the seemingly modest girl was something I had my eye on for a while when standing in line for Indiana Jones. I thank the person that was with me for this shot, as she continually pushed me to take it at every opportunity she had.

I've cropped out the person behind her, who must have seen me taking the picture as she was giving me the strangest of looks.

Red Vinyl Shoes

I thought these were strangely interesting. They looked like they were a vinyl type material and they matched the man's shirt. If anyone has any idea what kind of shoes these are, let me know.

Sickness

I apologize for not really getting this blog up and running. I mean to this month, and I am serious. Since December, at least one person in this household has been sick, meaning that we are all a little tied down in some way. Everyone is finally taking the step to recovery which will hopefully boost the activity in this blog.

Girls On A Bench

I passed these girls on my way into a store. On my way out, they were still there. And though it took me a moment to build up the confidence to ask (I am new at this, leave me alone!), I am quite glad I did.

Despite it having rained last night and today, I was amazed to see so many people wearing flip-flops. The ones photographed are yellow. Their makeup and hair is what stood out to me most.

Shoes

I love shoes. Those who know me know I love shoes. They're a fun way to spice up any outfit. I am not one for uncomfortable shoes so I don't even bother with such things.

This last Christmas, a friend of mine gave me a pair of shoes. He bought them secondhand. I know many people can get a little iffy when you mention the word 'secondhand', but I assure you, some good purchases can be made secondhand. While these shoes may be clearly previously worn (scuffed), it gives them a certain charm. I wear these when feeling punk, and I often wonder who it was wore them before me. What did they do to give them such a scuff? Were they in a club, stage diving as they churned out the tunes? Were they doing something less glamorous like tripping over their own feet?

I wouldn't exactly reccomend these for hiking or running or anything, but they're fun shoes nonetheless.

I will be out and about tomorrow. Hopefully I will find a willing participant to photograph.

Ready For Christmas

I approached this lady in the mall after she was pointed out to me by my mom. She was just browsing alone and I told her I loved her antlers and requested a photo. She kindly agreed and really was such a sweet lady. The lighting in this mall is poor and so I don't think the photo itself turned out well, but I still love what I captured.

You might not be able to see, but her earrings are little beaded Santa Clause figures. Her necklace is also a festive bell.

What is SoCal Style?
SoCal Style is a fashion blog documenting fashion in Southern California. There won't be runway reviews. This is a one-person show. I walk, skip, jump, run, and so-forth with my camera to find people I feel look "interesting". Interesting may or may not constitute the latest fashion trend.

What places do you take photos at?
I take photos wherever I happen to be and have my camera. This may end up as the grocery store, on a college campus, at a museum, or quite possibly a gas station. Wherever I find you!

Do you ask people before you take pictures of them?
Yes. I will NOT take a photo unless I have your permission. The only exception would be if you were too far away (or moving too quickly: on a bike, etc.) to ask. If you happen to stumble across this blog and see your photo and do not want it here, just ask me and I will remove it.

What kind of camera do you use?
I use a Nikon D40, but the early photographs in this blog were taken with a Canon Powershot.
